Charles Birch Ltd Summary of Government Assistance Measures re Covid-19 Pandemic.

Grants for retail businesses that pay rates

  • £10,000.00 is payable to all retail businesses with a property with a rateable value under £15,000.00
£25,000.00 is payable to all retail businesses with a property with a rateable value between £15,000.00 and £51,000.00
This cash should be issued directly to you by your local authority, without you having to submit a claim. However it may be a good idea to chase up your local authority directly. To find your local authority log into: www.gov.uk/find-local-council
  • Retail businesses will receive a rates holiday for the financial year 2020-2021. This will apply to the next council tax bill of April 2020, the bill may need to be reissued excluding the business rates. Again you shouldn’t need to do anything as it should happen automatically. To qualify you need to be receiving one of the above reliefs and occupy property.
This cash should be issued directly to you by your local authority, without you having to submit a claim. However it may be a good idea to chase up your local authority directly. To find your local authority log into: www.gov.uk/find-local-council

Business Interruption Loan Scheme

Deferred Tax Bills

Support for businesses with employees

  • Corona Virus Job Retention Scheme
Designate workers that would otherwise have been laid off as “furloughed”. These workers are sent home and will not be active in the business though they will continue to be employed and enjoy all employment rights. The government will then refund the company 80% of the basic wage up to a cap of £2,500.00 per month.
A record must be kept of when each member of staff was furloughed. The government is currently working on a portal to place all the information to make this claim but at the time of writing this was not in place.
The government is suggesting that you take out a Business Interruption Loan rather than laying off employees during the interim period.
  • Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
Employers will be able to claim back up to two weeks SSP for any employee who is off work with Covid-19 (Corona Virus) related illness. They will not require a GP fit note.
A rebate scheme is currently being developed – in the meantime keep all records.
